NFT’s, or non-fungible tokens, are shifting the limiting paradigms inside the digital art world and its market.
Each NFT comes with an unique identification code that assigns it to its original creator, as a way of stamping the artwork with a certificate of authenticity, establishing the identity of the creator. They are powered by smart contracts and represent unique items that can only be owned by one person.
When a non-fungible token is certified and traded through the blockchain technology, it cannot be modified, providing the artist with a digital protection of their artwork. Usually, the artist can decide how many copies of each artwork will be available, but in the case of Shift Gallery, we have decided to mint only one of each artwork as the original.
We believe this provides creators with a new platform to profit from their work and from the royalties of its subsequent trades, much like it would happen in a traditional art gallery. Recreating this power dynamics of the traditional art world, we have taken it into another universe. We also realize that the speed at which this universe is moving has culminated into an unhinged aesthetic typical of the NFT’s, which we are committed to change, through a curation of the artworks.
